Bucky's Basement presents a unique episode of Casting Cage this week, where we review a film directed by Nicolas Cage: 2002's "Sonny" (Cage does cast himself an interesting minor role, one Acid Yellow, which we delve into). This film stars James Franco as the titular Sonny, a male prostitute in 1980's (?) New Orleans, pimped out by his mother, Jewel (played by Brenda Blethyn). There is a lot to unpack here.
Why is it so hard to determine what decade this movie takes place in? Why does Sonny have a problem with someone sipping sizzerp?
